CCU Steals the Show at Lewis Crossover

The men's and women's Cross Country teams hit the road and took their talents to compete in the Lewis Crossover hosted by Lewis University in Romeoville, IL. 20 teams competed and the Cougars finished at the top of pack as they finished in first place in both the men's and women's divisions. Several top performances highlighted a very productive day for the Cougars and allowed them to take home the team victories. This marks the second time in program history that the Cougars have swept the team titles as they also accomplished the feat last year at the JK Gold Classic.

Women:     Paige Tack highlighted the women's team on the day as she tallied a top five finish coming in at fifth overall with a time of 21:21.39. Following close behind was Shannon King who finished in 10th place with a time of 22:01.11. Followed by Michelle Kuipers in 13th place running a stellar time of 22:08.94. Elizabeth Mattson rounds out the Cougars that had Top-20 finishes on the women's side as she finished in 16th place with a time of 22:12.60.

Head coach Jon Poag spoke about their effort saying, "Our women probably surprised some people today, those ladies ran like that had something to prove. Winning this meet is hard to do, hats off to all the sacrifices they have made to be at their best for each other.

Men:     The men were highlighted by second and third place finishes by Trent Cochran and Josh Pierantoni. Cochran ran a time of 23:49.07, while Pierantoni came in just behind him with a time of 23:51.99. Matthew Storer came in next for the Cougs as he finished in ninth place overall with a time of 24:22.92. Isaac Russo took home a 14th place finish after running 24:26.76. Jeremy Miller rounds out the men with a Top-20 finish on the day as he came in 19th place with a time of 24:36.77

Head Coach Jon Poag spoke about his men's team performances on the day saying, "Our men ran to form and showed a lot of maturity. We had some great races upfront, and strong depth throughout the entire roster."

After the great showing today, they will waste little time in getting back into action as they will set their sights on the 2022 Trojan Invite hosted by Colby Community College in Colby, KS. That race will take place on October 15th
