CCU Is Ready to Tipoff at Home

The Cougars men's basketball team begin their 7 game homestand tonight at 7pm vs Spurgeon College and continue with a game at 5pm on Saturday vs Barclay College. Both teams will arrive in Lakewood this week with plenty of basketball under their belts, with both teams having already played in at least 6 competitions.

The Knights of Spurgeon College boast a 6-1 record and will look to continue their winning ways when they meet our Cougars tonight. The Knights are led on the court by the talented duo of Drew Middleton and Jude Warren. Middleton leads the way as he averages 20.3 points per game and is a threat from beyond the arc as he has hit 31 of 67 three point field goals he has attempted. Warren is right behind Middleton as he averages 19.6 points per game and wreaks havoc on the defensive side of things as he has already collected 27 steals on the young season.

The Barclay College Bears are looking for their first win of the season when they take the floor on Saturday evening at 5pm. Barclay gets their leadership from a pair of seniors on the team Davion Knight and Aleck Smith.

Coach Simmons expects both teams to present strong challenges for his young squad and is excited about the opportunity to be playing at home as he said, "We are very excited to open at home this week and bring Cougars basketball to our CCU campus for the first time this season. Both Spurgeon College and Barclay College play a well coached brand of basketball that will challenge us to be at our best. We are continuing to grow as a ball club and I am looking forward to coaching at home this week and seeing our guys compete against two good teams."

The Cougars have a talented squad that has a good mix of youth and experience. Three Cougars are averaging double digit points early in the season as DJ McDonald and Nic Zeil are both averaging 12 points per game, and Noah Kon is right behind them with 11 points per game. Newcomer and freshman Maro Egodotaye is a force to be reckoned with as he averages nearly a double-double with eight points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game. Look for the Cougars to utilize the home energy during this homestand as they look to grab their first win of the season on Thursday night.

Tip is scheduled for 7PM MST tonight 11/17/2022 at the CCU Event Center in Lakewood, CO as the Cougars begin their first homestand of the year against the Spurgeon Knights. The series will continue on Saturday at 5PM against Barclay College.
