EMPORIA, KS- The Cougars traveled to Kansas on Friday as they took part in the Emporia State University Invite. Each team placed a runner in the top 10 as part of a successful day in their neighboring state. 

The women started first, running the 5000m in the afternoon to begin things. Freshman Kaylie Bookout impressed, running her way to a 10th place finish with a time of 19:05.74. Maleah Wardlaw followed as she claimed 17th with a mark of 19:37.00. Benisa Ellis and Sarah Hamlin finished in 23rd and 24th, while Anna McLaughlin closed out the top five for her team. 

The men came next, taking part in the 8000m. Newcomer Sam Schwarting was the top finisher, claiming eighth place with a time of 26:03.22. Kale Edmonds and Jay Wood followed closely with 12th and 13th place with runs of 26:17.96 and 26:23.59 respectively. Tate Fletcher was just behind as the fourth CCU runner in the top 15 with a 14th place finish after a run of 26:26.77. Shane Pranno ran a 28:08.94 to close out his teams' top five. 

This meet was smaller than most with just seven teams competing on the women's side and six on the men. The women took 4th place while the men claimed third. 

The team gets right back to action October 7 as they compete in the Lewis Crossover in Romeoville, Illinois.
