LAKEWOOD,CO- The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) announced their All-Region teams on Thursday, and the Cougars placed three impressive runners on the list. For the women, Shannon King earned the honor after a strong regional race and season, while Matthew Storer and Trent Cochran received the award for the men after stellar seasons themselves. All three of these runners will lead their teams into the National Championships on November 18 in Joplin, Missouri.
King gained momentum throughout the season as she claimed a strong 14th place at the Lewis Crossover amongst many top teams and runners across the nation. She had her best race of the year at Regionals, taking 15th place with a time of 21:02.94. As King looks ahead to Nationals, she has been named an NCAA South Central All-Region Honoree.
Cochran has been a mainstay on the Cougars for many years, and he has continued to get faster and faster over the years. Following a fourth place finish at the Lewis Crossover to help his team take second overall, Cochran followed it up with a time of 30:30.11 to claim 15th overall at Regionals. Cochran helps lead a squad of talented runners as CCU approaches Nationals on November 18.
Storer has been one of the best runners in the country since arriving at Colorado Christian, and he has continued to prove that this season. At the prestigious Lewis Crossover, Storer ran away from the field to take a victory, and for his efforts was named the USTFCCCA Athlete of the Week. He continued to shine at the South Central Regional, claiming fourth place overall amongst what many consider to be the toughest regional in all of division two. This performance sets Storer up well as he and his team get ready for Nationals later this month.
Congratulations to Shannon King, Trent Cochran and Matthew Storer on being named NCAA South Central All-Region!
