LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian athletics kicked off their Excellence for an Audience of One Facility Campaign in October at their annual Hall of Fame Banquet. Thanks to several generous donations, the total money raised sits at 4.7 million dollars and counting.
Part of the plans for the new facility include a brand new state-of-the-art softball field, something that CCU Athletics is lacking as softball currently shares All Star Park with the baseball team. This creates a number of challenges with practice schedules, setting up the fences and moving the mound on and off the field to name a few. Another challenge arose this past season as following a 57 win season, softball earned the right to host the Regional as the number two seed in the South Central Region. However, due to All Star Park not being a dedicated softball field with a permanent wall and permanent softball dimensions, the facility did not meet NCAA requirements and the regional bid was not given to the Cougars. As a result, the team had to travel to West Texas despite the fact that they earned the right to host.Â
With a new facility that is up to date with all NCAA requirements, softball will be able to host future regionals and tournaments in the years to come. Not only does this new facility help the softball team, but baseball greatly benefits from this as they will have All Star Park to themselves and be able to practice and play there without any scheduling conflicts.Â
