DENVER, CO- The Cougars headed to nearby Metro State University Denver for a pair of seven inning games on Friday afternoon and night. The hosts came out on top, winning by final scores of 8-3 and 12-5.
GAME ONE
The Roadrunners jumped ahead early, scoring seven runs in the first two innings of the first contest. Major Maydon closed the gap with a two-RBI single, and Aaron Morgan singled home another run to cut into the hosts lead. A third inning run from MSUD turned out to be the last of the game, as the pitching on both sides locked in from there in an eventual 8-3 win for Metro.
Jake Gimbel threw the entire game, going six complete innings with three strikeouts on 98 pitches.
GAME TWO
Much like the first contest, MSUD jumped ahead quickly with eight first inning runs. Maydon stayed hot at the plate, blasting a solo shot to right field to get his team on the board. The Roadrunners extended the lead to 12-1, but the Cougars would not go down without a fight. A double from Maydon in the sixth plated a run, and Frankie Shearn singled home another run. Jordan Medina closed the scoring with a two-run homer to right field in the seventh as CCU fell in the end 12-5.
Jonny Tewinkle and Sawyer Shepherd combined for 4 innings of one run ball to limit the Roadrunners. Maydon and Medina propelled the offense with two RBI apiece.
Colorado Christian will be back in action tomorrow, April 22, at MSUD with a single game slated for 3 p.m. MST.
