LAKEWOOD, CO- The Division II Conference Commissioners Association announced their All-Region teams on Tuesday, and the Cougars claimed four spots on the list. After an incredible junior season, Kenzie Middleton was named the South Central Region Player of the Year, while Kali Crandall and Logan Menzies were named to the Regions' first team. Abrie Castillo nabbed a spot on the second team for her efforts in the circle this year.
Middleton was red hot at the plate all season, with a .401 average and a school record 16 home runs. She led the Cougars with a slugging percentage of .766 while tallying 51 RBI on 89 hits. An on-base percentage of .451 saw her score 72 runs as she hit from both the leadoff and third spot in the lineup during the season. At catcher, Kenzie was stellar all year with a .986 fielding percentage with 384 putouts. For her wonderful season, Middleton makes the first team all-region team and is the player of the year!
Crandall earns first team honors after a tremendous season inside the circle. With an ERA of 1.47 and an eye-popping 230 strikeouts, Kali posted a 29-4 record with a heavy workload of 214.2 innings pitched. She held her opponents to a .151 batting average while maintaining a WHIP of .76. Crandall tossed a pair of no-hitters and threw the second perfect game in CCU history as part of an incredible season.
Menzies was a force both offensively and defensively for her team, leading her squad in RBI and maintaining a perfect fielding percentage in right field. Her 64 RBI were a team high and she launched off 16 homers to tie the single season school record. She punctuated her effectiveness with a grand slam in the RMAC Tournament title game as she led the Cougars to their second consecutive tournament title.
Castillo earned second team honors after a stellar year in the circle. She posted an ERA of 2.03 while fanning 129 batters and holding opponents to a .222 batting average. With 158.2 innings pitched, Castillo tallied a WHIP of .98 with a 22-2 record. She tossed the first perfect game in CCU history as she etched her name in the record books with a wonderful year.
