PUEBLO, CO- The Cougars sent a record seven student-athletes to the Outdoor Track & Field National Championships hosted by CSU Pueblo on Thursday. Four different athletes took part in the 1500m, while three more ran the nights' final event in the 10k.
Zanzie Demco started things off in the women's 1500m, running to a seventh place finish in her heat and 14th place finish overall with a time of 4:35.51. Trent Cochran followed in the men's 1500m, kicking hard at the end to claim 14th with a time of 3:53.27. Hudson Majeski followed in 17th with a mark of 3:55.56 while Alex Vance closed just behind in 18th with a 3:57.57.Â
The last event of the night was the men's 10k, and Matthew Storer, Josh Pierantoni and Isaac Russo took part in the distance event. Storer stayed attached to a large pack throughout the majority of the race, and he pushed hard on the final lap to claim fourth place with a time of 30:16.83. The finish gave Storer All American honors as he completed the hat trick of All Americans with one each in cross country, Indoor Track & Field and Outdoor Track & Field.Â
Pierantoni stayed with Storer the entirety of the race, coming in just behind him in fifth place with a mark of 30:17.04. Josh claimed All American honors yet again after he led his team to a third place finish in cross country and claimed the honors there as well. Russo closed in 13th with a run of 30:58.40 to close out the event.
With two All Americans produced on the day, the Cougars get a day off tomorrow before Storer and Pierantoni race in the 5k May 27 at 8:30 p.m. MST.
