LONG BEACH, CA; AZUSA, CA- Track and field headed to California to compete in a pair of meets at Azusa Pacific University and Long Beach State University. Three women took part in the Beach Invitational, while they and the rest of the team competed in the prestigious Bryan Clay Invite at Azusa.
The women began at Long Beach State on Friday, and
Hannah George began with a run of 12.36 in the 100m. George also ran the 200m, posting a time of 25.98. Over at Azusa,
Ava Maginity ran the 800m on Friday, running a 2:18.35 in the event. Ava continued the next day in the 1500m, running a personal best time of 4:43.34.
Elizabeth Cochran followed with a 4:50.45, while
Shannon King competed in a different heat and ran an excellent time of 4:32.48 while
Callie Ketner ran a 4:50.20. In the 400m,
Tara Smoker posted a run of 57.27.
Ashley Vil competed in the triple jump, posting a mark of 10.79m.
For the men,
Ethan Wampler took part in the distance carnival over at LaVerne in the 5k, running a time of 14:47.89.
Klay Grant took part in the 800m at Azusa, running a PR of 1:54.82. He followed in the 1500m with a time of 3:54.17.
Hudson Majeski ran an impressive time of 3:50.89 in the event, while
Mateo Luna ran a Personal best of 3:51.07.
Tate Fletcher posted a run of 4:05.63, while
Trent Cochran ran a time of 3:52.94. Friday saw the best results of the weekend for the Cougars as a trio took part in the 5k at Azusa.
Matthew Storer ran an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time in a fast field of runners, posting a time of 13:47.34. The personal best run gives Storer the fifth best time in DII, while the four times ahead of him were also run at the Bryan Clay. Cochran impressed with a sub-14 5k, snagging a provisional time with a run of 13:58.39 for 21st in the country.
Josh Pierantoni followed with a qualifying time of 14:18.31 for 47th as the trio all found themselves on the list for the 5k.
It was a strong weekend of competition in California for the Cougars, and they will look to keep the momentum going as they head to Kansas to take part in the Loper Invitational April 19 and Kit Mayer Classic April 20 at Mines.
