GOODYEAR, AZ- Colorado Christian traveled to Arizona to take part in their second tournament of the year at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella September 16-17. After a fantastic two rounds, the Cougars claimed the team title by two strokes and
Raya Schulz took home the individual crown by two strokes as well.
ROUND ONE
Schulz started out strong on day one as she carded a 75 with three birdies.
Mary Beth Doss followed with a 77, while
Elliana McKinley fired off a 78.
Makenna Brown shot a 79 to close the first day, and
Kylee Hughes shot an 80 as CCU sat in a good position heading into the second and final round the next day.
ROUND TWO
Raya was excellent in the final round, firing off a three under par 69 for a personal best that sent her to even par overall in the tournament. Sinking four birdies during the round, Schulz propelled into the top spot and stayed there to claim the individual title. The win marks the juniors' first collegiate victory as she will bring hardware back to Colorado after the stellar performance. Doss followed with a 77 as she claimed a tie for 22nd, while a 76 from Brown gave her a tie for 29th. McKinley shot a 79 to tie for 36th, and Hughes shot an 82 to tie for 54th.
As a team, the Cougars shot a total of 610 (309, 301) to claim the victory over Cal State East Bay and Lubbock Christian by two strokes. This marks the first tournament win for CCU since March of 2023 at the Pack Classic, and the team certainly earned it after a wonderful two days in Arizona.
The Cougars will carry the momentum from their victory into their next tournament September 30-October 1 as they head to the West Regional Preview in Amarillo, Texas hosted at Tascosa Golf Club.
