LAKEWOOD, CO- The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) announced their final pitcher and player of the week honors on Tuesday, and two Cougars swept the weekly awards to close the season on a high note.
Saxton Sorenson claimed pitcher of the week after he shut down New Mexico Highlands for a complete game victory. The senior was excellent in his final start, limiting the Cowboys to just two earned runs as he struck out seven and did not walk a single batter on 111 pitches thrown. The effort gave his team the 6-3 victory in their season finale in New Mexico as the strikeout leader of the program closed his collegiate career out with a bang.
Gregory Rangel nabbed player of the week after a four-game stretch that he won't soon forget. The freshman was virtually unstoppable at the plate as he went a combined 14-19 in the series with five home runs, a double and 11 RBI as he batted for an average of .736. It was the best performance in all of division II as Rangel led his team to a series win, highlighted by a three homer and seven RBI performance in game three of the series.
Congratulations to
Saxton Sorenson and
Gregory Rangel on being named the RMAC Pitcher and Player of the week!
