Gregory Rangel Honored as NCBWA National Hitter of the Week

LAKEWOOD, CO- The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced their National Players of the Week on Wednesday, and after a torrid close to the season at the plate, Gregory Rangel has been named the Hitter of the Week.

Rangel was dominant in the Cougars' four-game series at New Mexico Highlands this past weekend. Game one saw the freshman go 3-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored. He then compiled a 5-6 game in a seven inning contest, scoring four times and notching an RBI single and an extra base hit with a double in the game.

Game three of the series was a career one for Rangel as he went 4-6 and blasted three homers to record seven RBI. Both the homers and RBI tied a single game program record at CCU. The series finale saw Greg go 2-3 with a pair of RBI and another home run to close out the series win.

Over the weekend, Rangel went 14-19 with five homers and 11 RBI as he was the best hitter in division II in the explosive series. Finishing the weekend with a .737/.750/1.579 slash line, Greg showed that fans across the country can look forward to many more years of excellence from the freshman as he closed his first collegiate campaign with a bang.

Congratulations to Gregory Rangel on being named the NCBWA National Hitter of the Week!
