BOULDER CITY, NV- The Cougars battled through tough conditions at Boulder Creek Golf Club as they competed at the RMAC Championships April 19-21. After the final round was halted and just the first nine-hole score counted due to heavy winds,
Bradley Mulder came away with the individual title by a stroke while the team claimed fourth place overall.
ROUND ONE
Mulder started the tournament hot, firing a 68 with five birdies and an eagle to lead his team.
Peyton Jones followed with a stellar 70 with five birdies and an eagle to go two under par.
Camron Reddell posted a 72, while
Tyler Debruyckere and
Lance Christensen Jr. both closed with 73s.
Todd Tabor finished with a 75 to close the first round.
ROUND TWO
Mulder continued his strong play with a 70 on four birdies in round two, while Reddell caught fire with a 69 on four birdies as well. Jones fired a 74 followed by Debruyckere and Christensen Jr. with 76s. Tabor shot a 78 heading into the final day of play.
ROUND THREE
What started as a normal round Tuesday turned chaotic when the winds in the desert picked up and made things unplayable in the afternoon. Several teams had not finished, thus the RMAC was forced to make the decision to halt the round as balls were rolling off the greens due to high gusts of wind. Only the first nine holes were counted towards each teams' final scores, changing the makeup of the leaderboard.
What did not change was Mulders' standing at the end as the junior from Washington fired a 34 with four birdies to hold off Liam Allen from Mines and Leo Lavalle of Colorado Mesa to claim the individual title by one stroke. Bradley becomes the fourth straight Cougars to win the individual title at the RMAC Championships, following in the footsteps of Xavier Bighaus, Adam Duncan and Sangha Park. It was a tremendous display of consistency from Mulder despite the tough conditions as he came away with a statement victory.
Reddell shot a 37 as he finished 10th overall, while Jones closed with a 37 as well to take 15th. A 34 from Debruyckere placed him in 18th, while a 36 from Christensen Jr. gave him 22nd. Tabor closed with a 35 to take 29th place overall.
Overall, the Cougars shot a total of 711 (283, 289, 139) as they closed in 4th at -9, just three strokes off the winners Colorado Mesa.
CCU will now set their sights on the NCAA West/South Central Regionals May 7-9 at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, California.
