WAIMEA, HI – Enjoying the sunshine, humidity and breezes that Hawai'i has to offer, the Colorado Christian women's golf team concluded their fall season with a pair of school records.
The Cougars stayed in contention for their second team title of the season but fell back during the last round as they placed fourth at the Dennis Rose Invitational. They shot a 54-hole total of 908 (+44) with Grand Valley State claiming the top spot with an 889 (+25)
Colorado Christian's 908 total set the school record for lowest score in a 54-hole event. It beat the previous mark of 914 set at the RMAC Championships in 2019.
Individually, the duo of Faith Kilgore and Emily Donaldson put together a pair of top 10 finishes to pace the squad.
FIRST ROUND RECAP: After the initial 18 holes the Cougars fired a 309 (+21) which placed them in the fifth position and 16 strokes behind Biola's lead.
Donaldson had the best individual round for the team as the senior was two-over par with a 74. Michaela Cox and Kilgore each registered a 77 (+5) which put them in a tie for 22nd.
Completing the scoring competitors for the team were Courtney Andersson (81, +9) and Kiersten Bryant (85, +13).
Emily Doeden led the trio of players competing as individuals by firing an 80 (+8) while Mary Beth Doss carded an 84 (+12) and Maggie Porter tallied an 88 (+16).
SECOND ROUND RECAP: The Cougars made a big jump during the middle day. Their 292 (+4) was the best team round on Tuesday as the moved into the third spot and just six strokes behind Grand Valley State. Moreover, the 292 was the best 18 hole team score in school history.
Kilgore made the biggest individual charge as she fired a 66 (-6) to move up to the second spot and one stroke off the lead. The senior's round was the second best round in school history. Just one stroke behind her effort last season at the Swan Memorial tournament.
Donaldson improved by three strokes from her opening round. She moved into third place with a round of 71 (-1); just two strokes behind Kilgore. Andersson made a four stroke improvement with a 77 (+5) with Bryant's 78 (+6) the second best improvement from round-to-round on the team. Cox slipped back with an 81 (+9).
Porter put together a quality round as she fired a 76 (+4) to pace the individuals. Doeden also improved from her first round as she carded a 78 (+6). Doss registered an 85 (+13) for complete the team's efforts.
FINAL ROUND RECAP: The last 18 holes saw the Cougars shoot a 307 (+19) to complete their Big Island experience.
Kilgore battle for the top individual spot by fell short by two stroke as she fired a 73 (+1). Biola's Brady Turnquist won the event by going even par in the last round. Only two players shot under par during the final round. Kilgore posted four top five finish in the Cougars fall tournaments.
Donaldson finished in a tie for sixth place as she completed her tournament with a final round 77 (+5). Cox fired a 78 (+6) to finish tied for 30th. Andersson was just back of her teammate with a tied for 35th finish as she shot a 79 (+7). Bryant's 83 rounded out the scoring players for the Cougars.
Doeden had the best tournament among the individuals on the team as she closed with a 79 (+7) to also tie for 35th. Doss closed with an 81 (+9) while Porter battled to a final round 95 (+23).
INSIDE THE SCORECARD
- Donaldson went four-under par on par five holes; tied for the best in the field
- Kilgore's 4.10 scoring average on par four holes was tied with Turnquist for the top mark
- The tournament scoring average per round was 80.26
