Series Schedule

The Cougars and Rangers will play a two-day, four-game series with each day scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. The first game each day will be nine innings followed by a seven inning contest. The series was originally scheduled for the weekend but an incoming snow storm forced the game dates to be changed.

The Recap Against New Mexico Highlands

The Cougars opened RMAC play with a split of its four-game series with the Cowboys. The opener saw the New Mexico Highlands starting pitcher Jardian Martinez throw a complete-game before the Cougars won Friday's second game with a 7-3 decision with the help of Caden Walton's three hits and two runs scored. Saturday's doubleheader proved to be unique as Colorado Christian rallied from a 7-0 deficit to win 13-7 before the Cowboys won the final game 6-5 in extra innings when they hammered their ninth long ball of the series in the top of eighth.

Early Stat Leaders

Jordan Medina's solid weekend at the plate against the Cowboys lifted his season average to a team best .400. His 10 total hits lead the team as does his three doubles and 16 total bases among other offensive categories. He has played in all seven games at catcher or at the DH spot. Walton (.321), Wyatt Crenshaw (.320) and Frankie Shearn III (.304) are also hiting above the .300 mark. Walton is second on the team with nine hits while Eli Ludwig has registered eight. Crenshaw has scored a team high 11 runs.

Both Medina and Walton have a five-game hitting streak while Connor Marschall has reached base in all seven games.

On top of the mound, no pitcher has more than two appearances. Kyler Riordan has thrown a team high 12.1 innings while registering 12 strikeouts. Devin Sutorious is second on the team with 11 strikeouts. Out of the bullpen JC Watne has 3.0 innings to his credit with a pair of strikeouts.

RMAC Coaches Poll

The preseason RMAC coaches poll picked the Cougars to finish seventh in the nine-team conference. Colorado Mesa was picked to win the league as they received eight of the possible nine first-place votes. Colorado School of Mines was selected second, garnering the other first-place vote.

Head Coach - Paul Koss

The 2020-21 season will be the first full season as head coach for Koss.

Paul Koss was named the school's full-time baseball coach on March 19, 2020. He was serving as the interim head coach for just over four months prior. He has been with the program since the 2017 season, serving as the squad's pitching coach before being elevated to the program's leader.

Originally from California, Koss played baseball at Orange Lutheran High School, where he then went on to play at the University of Southern California.

After four years of playing at USC he was selected in the 11th round of the 2007 draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He played for the organization for four seasons, reaching the AA level. Koss recorded 20 saves and 140 strikeouts as a reliever in his four Minor League Baseball seasons. He was a single-A All-Star while playing in the California League in 2008.

In his playing career at USC he was the closer for three years ending his career second all-time in career saves, single season saves and appearances for the Trojans. This lead to playing for the Chatham A's in the Cape Cod league and earning a spot on the All-Star team in 2006 and received pitcher of the year honors.
