THORNTON, CO – Hosting their home event and season opener for the second straight year, the Colorado Christian women's golf team welcomed a loaded field to the Swan Memorial.
The Cougars finished in fourth in the 19-team field during the 54-hole event hosted at Todd Creek Country Club.
FIRST ROUND RECAP: After the first 18 holes on Monday, the Cougars were in third place after registering a 315 (+26). They were five strokes off the lead which was held by UCCS.
Individually Faith Kilgore shot a team best 73 (+1) and four strokes behind Midwestern State Juanita Gomez's (68, -3) lead. Kiersten Bryant fired a 76 (+4) in her first round with the program; putting her in a tie for fourth place. Emily Donaldson was also in a top 10 position with a 79 (+7).
Rounding out the scoring golfers were Courtney Andersson (87, +15) and Michaela Cox (92, +20)
Three individuals were competing for Colorado Christian as individuals. Emily Doeden carded an 80 (+8) while Mary Beth Doss opened her collegiate tenure with an 83 (+11). Sophomore Maggie Porter started her second season with the squad by recording an 86 (+14).
SECOND ROUND RECAP: Finishing out Monday's day, the Cougars had a two-stroke improvement by firing a 313 (+24) but slid back into fourth place and 15 strokes off of UCCS's lead.
Kilgore fired a 74 (+2) but stay moved to just three shots away from Gomez's lead. Bryant stayed in the top 10 overall but slid back to a ninth place tie with a round of 80 (+8). Donaldson went back to a 14th place tie as she carded a round of 78 (+6).
Andersson and Cox each had significant improvements as they both tallied a round of 81 (+9).
Each of the individual player produced solid rounds as Doeden went for another 80 (+8) while Doss and Porter notched a round of 77 (+5).
FINAL ROUND RECAP: The Cougars finished the event by registering a 307 (+18) in the last round to place fourth overall. Their final round team total was the second best total on the day.
Kilgore fired a 77 (+5) to finish in a second place tie overall. Donaldson had the best round as the senior notched a 75 (+3) to record a seventh place finish. Bryant's 78 (+6) also put her in the top 10 as she finished tied for eighth.
Andersson completed her event with a 77(+5) while Cox (89, +15) rounded out the scoring competitors.
The individual group on the final day was led by Porter's 80 (+8) while Doeden and Doss each carded an 87 (+15).
INSIDE THE SCORECARD
- The Cougars recorded 145 pars in the event which was the most in the field
- Colorado Christian's 22 birdies was the fifth best total
- Bryant led all golfers with a 4.67 scoring average on par five holes
