Cougars Shatter Several School Records in Excellent Showing in Arizona

GOODYEAR, AZ- The Cougars headed to Arizona to compete in the Palm Valley Classic Friday through Saturday. Faith Kilgore played excellent throughout, taking home her second straight individual victory as the team took home fourth overall. Kilgore set a school record for lowest score in a 36 hole tournament, and Colorado Christian shot the lowest in school history as a team in 36 holes, outscoring the previous record by an astounding 13 strokes.

ROUND ONE
Kilgore had a great day in her first round on Friday, shooting a 69 to finish three under par after sinking six birdies. Kiersten Bryant followed with a 75 and Emily Donaldson posted a 76. Courtney Andersson netted a 78 and Emily Doeden shot an 86.

ROUND TWO
Kilgore stayed consistent on day two, taking a stroke off for a 68 as she took home her second straight tournament victory. She posted five more birdies for 11 total over the weekend to cement herself as a force in the region. Andersson shaved six strokes off her first round score to net a 72, posting a personal career collegiate low score to take home 27th overall.  Donaldson shot a 77 to finish 43rd. Bryant posted an 80 to come in 56th and Doeden shot an 82 to take 137th.

Colorado Christian posted an overall score of 595 to take home fourth out of 28 teams competing. This score obliterated the previous school record through 36 holes of 608 by 13 strokes and showed that this team is a force to be reckoned with. Colorado Christian took down the number 11 and 19 ranked teams in the nation and blew away every RMAC team competing in a program record setting performance.

"Really proud of how the girls played at Palm Valley. To beat some of the nations best teams and finish as well as we did in that big of a field is a huge confidence boost for them and if anything just proves that that is right where we belong on a weekly basis," said head coach Philip Nelson. "Faith obviously tore it up and made it pretty clear she is one of the best players in the nation. It will be really tough for anyone to beat her coming down the stretch this season. Breaking both the individual and team records is only the start to the rest of this season. These girls ae getting it going."

UP NEXT- The Cougars will have a quick turnaround as they return to action April 4-5 at the West Texas A&M Invite in Tucson.
