Cougars Start Season Off With Second Place Finish

LAKEWOOD,CO- Colorado Christian kicked off their season at The Writz at Mile High at Bear Creek Golf Club in Lakewood. The Cougars saw many strong performances over the three days of competition as they finished in second place overall and Adam Duncan won the individual title to close an impressive showing from the sophomore.

"Adam is such a joy to have on the team. He's such a great quality young man of Christian character, and everyone has been anticipating his individual breakthrough victory for a year now," said head coach Mark Hull. "I believe this will be the first of many. Adam played an incredible final round today, and really helped carry us on a day we did not have our best as a team."

ROUND ONE
Day one saw many strong rounds, and Adam Duncan led the team with a 70 for a two under par day. Peyton Jones followed with a 71 on his first day competing with CCU. Zach Slayton shot a 72 for even par while Xavier Bighaus netted a 73. Dylan Arthur carded a 74 while Benjamin Fowler closed out the day with a 76.

Newcomer Cole Grossl, a transfer from New Mexico State, played as an individual and carded a 72 on day one. Camron Reddell and Cameron Sandland also competed as individuals and posted an 80 and 83 respectively.

ROUND TWO
Duncan continued the strong play on day two of competition, netting a 72 to remain two under par heading into the final day. Jones posted a strong round, remaining consistent with a 72. Bighaus and Arthur each tallied 73s while Slayton and Fowler carded 77s.

Grossl picked up a 75 on day two, while Reddell improved by siv strokes with a 74. Sandland shaved four strokes for a 79 on the day.

ROUND THREE
Duncan started the final day strong with a pair of birdies on the first two holes, and he did not slow down from there. Two more birdies to close the back nine had him closing in on the lead, and he posted three straight birdies on the back nine to close an impressive round of 68, good enough to earn him the individual title with a final score of 210, six under par.

Bighaus posted a strong round, netting four birdies to tally a 71 and finish tied for 14th. Jones carded a 77 to close the tournament in 22nd. Slayton tied for 25th with a 73 while Arthur finished in a tie for 32nd with a 76. Fowler posted an 81 as he closed in a tie for 62nd.

Grossl finished with a 74 to tie for 23rd. Reddell again improved his score, carding a 71 as he closed in a tie for 36th. Sandland posted a 73 for a tie for 64th overall.

In total, the Cougars tallied a score of 1092 through three days, finishing just four shots off the lead with an impressive second place finish.

"I'm proud of the guys this week. Even though we did not have our best stuff, we were able to challenge for the team title," Hull said. "We know we have so much more in the tank, and I cannot wait to get back out next week to see if we can improve on our second place finish. This team is not satisfied with second best. We will keep working hard, and I hope to see that pay off with some team victories this year."

UP NEXT- The Cougars will now head to Rohnert Park, California to compete at the NCAA Regional Preview September 18-20 hosted by Sonoma State University at Foxtail Golf Club.
