AKUMAL, MEXICO- Colorado Christian took part in the first tournament in school history outside of the country Sunday-Tuesday as they competed at the Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya. Taking on a plethora of talented teams from the RMAC and region,
Peyton Jones played an excellent three rounds to claim the individual title. As a team, the Cougars finished fifth overall amongst the 15 teams competing.
ROUND ONE
Camron Reddell paced his team on Sunday, firing a 74 on five birdies. Jones followed with a 76, while
Tyler Debruyckere carded a 78.
Lance Christensen Jr. shot an 84, and
Todd Tabor finished with an 86.
ROUND TWO
Jones began to feel comfortable on the course on day two, recording a blistering front nine with two eagles and two birdies as he closed with a 70. A 74 from Christensen Jr. and a pair of 77s from Debruyckere and Tabor continued round two, while Reddell finished with an 80.
ROUND THREE
Jones closed strong, firing a 71 on the final day of competition with an eagle and three birdies as he claimed his first collegiate title by a stroke. Christensen Jr. took home a tie for 21st as he closed with a 72, and an 80 from Debruyckere saw him tie for 40th. Reddell closed with an 82 to finish tied for 42nd, and Tabor shot a final round 77 to claim 54th.
As a team, the Cougars shot an overall score of 910 (312, 298, 300) as they claimed fifth place overall out of 15 teams.
Colorado Christian will return to their home course October 5-6 as they take part in the Bob Writz Invitational at Bear Creek Golf Club.
