LAKEWOOD, CO- The 2023 baseball season is upon us, and the Cougars are hungry to reach new goals and make the RMAC tournament. 

After a seventh place finish in conference just left CCU out of the tournament in 2022, they will strive to take that next step this season with a group of returners who will make a big impact on the team. Wyatt Crenshaw has transferred to Arizona State following an All-American season that saw many records fall, but a majority of the Cougars' core is still intact. 

Left-fielder Frankie Shearn brings energy and speed to this team, often taking extra bases with his smart reads and speed around the infield. He will look to improve upon a season where he hit .377 with nine doubles, five triples and 21 RBI. Another key returner is catcher Jordan Medina, who had a strong season as a junior last year. The catcher had nine homers and a .341 average to go with 61 total hits. 

Defensively, Kade Carney is a player to watch at shortstop, as the junior has quick hands and a lightning-fast transfer that allows him to gun down baserunners frequently. Last season, Carney had a .950 fielding percentage with 29 putouts and 11 double plays turned. Right-fielder Gabe Ramos will look to make an even bigger impact in his second year with the Cougars. The transfer from Azusa Pacific had 65 putouts on a .957 fielding percentage last year, along with blasting nine homers and 37 RBI. 

On the mound, Senior Harrison Nation will look to lead his team with leadership and a command of the strike zone. Junior Cole Kennedy and sophomore Saxton Sorensen were a combined 3-1 in their decisions last year, and they will look to continue to have an impact from the bump this season. 

The Cougars kickoff their season on February 3 at Lynn University in Florida. RMAC play begins on March 10 as CCU hosts Colorado School of Mines at All Star Park. Be sure to support your Cougars all year long as another exciting season of baseball has arrived.
