BOULDER, CO- Indoor track & field continued their season with their first meet of 2024 at the Potts Indoor Invitational hosted by CU Boulder. Both teams saw strong performances as they started out the year on the right foot on a frigid day in Colorado.
On the women's side, Tara Smoker got things started in the 60m with a solid run of 7.93. Smoker then ran the 200m, posting a time of 26.29, followed by Madeline Schmeling with a run of 28.28.35. Shannon King impressed in the mile, running a blazing fast 5:00.10, good for an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time and new school record. King now sits in eighth in all of DII in the event. Callie Ketner took part in the 3000m, running to a time of 10:58.54. Ashley Vil was strong in the triple jump, posting a mark of 11.21m. Elana Sutton closed with the shot put, throwing 10.06m to close the meet.
For the men, Jonah Beard began by running a time of 23.27 in the 200m. Gabe Ring followed in the 400m, posting a time of 51.99. Mateo Luna posted a quality time in the 800m, running a 1:57.08. Hudson Majeski ran his first race of the season in the mile, starting with a time of 4:24.22. A pair of runners shined in the 3000m in Matthew Storer and Trent Cochran. Storer won the race with a time of 8:12.19 to give him a provisional qualifying time. Cochran also posted a qualifying time with a run of 8:29.31. Storer now sits third in division 2 right behind his teammate Josh Pierantoni in second, while Cochran claims the tenth spot in the country.
After the highly successful pair of days, the Cougars will be back in action next weekend January 19-20 at the UCCS Invite.
