Track & Field See Strong Results at Washburn Open in Kansas

TOPEKA, KS- Colorado Christian headed to their neighbor state of Kansas Friday and Saturday to compete in the Washburn Open. The team saw numerous quality results and times as they continued to push toward the end of the Indoor Season and Nationals. 

For the women, Hannah George got her team started with a 7.85 in the 60m. George took part in the 200m as well, posting a time of 25.11. Tara Smoker followed in the same event with a run of 25.67. George ran a third race as well, taking part in the 400m with a run of 1:00.95. Newcomer Ava Maginity flashed in the 800m with a run of 2:17.51 to place third in the event. 

Alysia Wagner was strong in the 3000m, placing 9th with a time of 10:42.34. Maleah Wardlaw followed closely in 11th with a time of 10:52.36. Benisa Ellis and Norah Thompson posted marks of 10:55.32 and 10:55.77 respectively in the distance event, while Sarah Hamlin ran an 11:19.37. Alayna Wallace posted a time of 11:30.18, and Anna McLaughlin ran a 12:07.17. Callie Ketner impressed in the 5000m with a fourth place finish as she ran an 18:07.74. 

The Cougars sent a foursome to take part in the distance medley, and the team of Wardlaw, Ellis, Maginity and Michelle Burroughts claimed fifth with a time of 12:38.4. Ashley Vil was strong in the triple jump, leaping a distance of 11.61m. Elana Sutton competed in the Pentathlon, taking part in the 60 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800m run. 

Jonah Beard got the men started in the 200m with a time of 22.16. Beard also competed in the 400m, posting a time of 52.54. Klay Grant ran in the 800m, posting a mark of 1:57.74. Mateo Luna followed closely with a run of 1:58.69. Jacob Marker ran a 2:01.86 to close the event. 

Luna shined in the mile, taking third with a time of 4:15.19. Tate Fletcher posted a mark of 4:24.71, and Clayton Ackley ran a 4:30.18. 

Ethan Wampler was strong in the 3000m, running a time of 8:39.50 to claim eighth. Ackley also took part in the event, posting a time of 8:46.81. Luke Meyer followed with an 8:51.01 to close the event. In the 5000m, Sam Schwarting ran a 15:45.43 in the longest event at the meet. Elsewhere at the Colorado Invitational, the Cougars sent Josh Pierantoni to run the mile, and he did so in a time of 4:19.16. 

The Cougars compete next at the prestigious David Hemery Valentine Invitational February 9-10 hosted by Boston University.
