PUEBLO, CO- Colorado Christian participated in their final tune-up before the RMAC Championships as they took part in the Southern Colorado Masters at Pueblo Country Club April 15-16. The Cougars battled heavy winds and difficult greens to finish in second place of the eight teams playing, while
Xavier Bighaus played a tremendous three rounds to claim the individual title.
ROUND ONE
Bighaus got his tournament started with four birdies in round one to shoot a 70 in some challenging conditions.
Dylan Arthur teed off with the best round on his team to start, firing off a 69 for two under par on five birdies.
Bradley Mulder matched Bighaus with a solid 70 on five birdies as well.
Peyton Jones followed with a 74, while
Adam Duncan shot a 75.
Ben Fowler led the individuals in the initial round with a 76, while
Cameron Sandland and
Cole Grossl closed with 77s.
ROUND TWO
Duncan led the team in the second and final round of day one, carding a 70 while sinking five birdies. Bighaus went even par for a 71, followed by Jones with a 74. Arthur posted a 75, while Mulder tallied a 78 in some extremely heavy winds.
Grossl led the individuals in the second round with a 77 followed by a 79 from Fowler. Sandland carded an 80 to finish out the day.
ROUND THREE
The wind persisted on day two, but the Cougars fought hard to battle the elements and remain near the top of the leaderboard. Bighaus had his best round of the tournament, shooting a 66 with seven birdies as he claimed first place by two strokes over a DI competitor from University of Colorado Boulder. Duncan battled to a 73 as he claimed a tie for ninth, while Arthur shot a 75 to tie for 12th. Mulder finished strong with a 74 to claim 20th, and Jones closed with an 83 to tie for 41st.
Grossl closed his round with a 79 to tie for 46th, while Fowler carded an 80 to claim 49th. Sandland finished with an 80 as he took 50th overall.
As a team, the Cougars shot a total of 861 (283, 290, 288) through three rounds to claim second place overall at the tournament that consisted of all RMAC teams.
The regular season has come to a close, and the Cougars will now head to Boulder City for the RMAC Championships at the Boulder Creek Golf Club April 21-23.
