LAKEWOOD, CO- The Learfield Directors Cup final standings came out today as all spring sports have come to a close at the DII level. With 7 different sports garnering points in the NCAA postseason, the Cougars claimed 55th as part of another highly successful season as they continue to send more and more teams to the playoffs and see strong results.
The Learfield Directors Cup is a competition across all NCAA sports and divisions. The point system measures performance at NCAA championships and postseason play, giving out predetermined point totals for placement at the championships. There are a total of 259 schools in DII who gained points for making the NCAA postseason.
Volleyball kicked off the point scoring in the fall as they went on a historic run to close the season. The team went on the road in the RMAC quarterfinals and took down South Dakota Mines in front of a rowdy crowd in Rapid City. They went on to sweep Colorado Mesa in the semifinals and book their first ever spot in the RMAC Championship game. Despite falling to MSU Denver, CCU received an at-large bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament, their first since 2012 and second all-time. A valiant effort against the host Angelo State capped a memorable season and set the tone for years to come.
The Women's Cross Country team made their fourth straight appearance at the NCAA National Championships, winning their first meet of the year in Sturgis and claiming eight place at Regionals. The team advanced to Nationals where they claimed 17th place overall to cap another stellar season as
Shannon King and
Britta Holmberg took home All-American honors.
Men's Cross Country made a fight straight appearance at the NCAA National Championships in 2024, and they continued to show they are a force to be reckoned with. Starting the year off with a victory at the Black Hills XC Invite and continuing with a strong third place finish at the competitive Lewis Crossover, the Cougars placed 6th at Regionals as they headed to Nationals. Highlighted by a fourth place individual finish from
Matthew Storer, the team took 11th place as they continue to be one of the best teams in the nation for cross country.
King continued to excel as she qualified for the Indoor Track & Field National Championships in the highly competitive mile. The graduate student threw down the best performance of her career, making the finals and then running a PR and school record time of 4:43.14 as she claimed fourth place and garnered another All-American honor.
Softball continued their dominance in the RMAC in 2025, claiming the regular season title and hosting rights for the RMAC Tournament. They reclaimed the tournament title at All Star Park, winning all three games to get an auto bid to the NCAA Regionals. Down in Tyler, Texas, the Cougars started with a win before ultimately falling to the hosts and eventual National Champion Patriots as it was a fourth straight appearance at Regionals for
Larry Hays and his team.
Women's Golf gained early momentum with a win in the fall at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella as
Raya Schulz claimed her first collegiate individual victory. They caught fire again in the spring at the RMAC Championships as they battled their way to a second place finish. Earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals, the team closed a strong season with a 16th place finish.
The Men's Golf team had one of the most memorable seasons in CCU Athletics history as they rolled their way through the regular season. With an undefeated run of 10 straight tournament wins, the Cougars at one point boasted the #1-4 ranked players in DII. They won the RMAC Championship for the second straight year with an incredible tally of -50. They went on to win the programs' first ever NCAA Regional title as they rolled into the National Championships. Once there, the team won stroke play after three rounds and made a run to the title match. Despite a heartbreaking loss in a playoff hole in the finals, the team will forever be remembered as one of the best to ever do it at CCU as they reached heights never seen before at any DII golf program.
The Cougars enjoyed yet another incredible season as they continue to glorify God at the highest level of competition and make Colorado Christian proud.
