STOCKTON, CA- The Cougars competed at the NCAA West/South Central May 7-9 at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton as they looked to qualify for the National Championships for the third straight season. CCU achieved their goal for the weekend, claiming a tie for fourth place with a score of +3 as they punched their ticket to the final tournament of the season.
ROUND ONE
Bradley Mulder came out firing, carding a round one score of 70 with two birdies and an eagle. A consistent trio of Cougars that included
Peyton Jones,
Tyler Debruyckere and
Lance Christensen Jr. all shot 73s, while
Camron Reddell shot a 74 on the par 72 course.
ROUND TWO
Another torrid round from Mulder saw him fire a 67 with four birdies and an eagle on hole 16 for the second straight day. Christensen Jr. went under par with a 70 on two birdies and an eagle, while Jones and Reddell both shot 76s. Debruyckere closed with a 74 as CCU entered the final day of play three strokes back of a qualifying spot for the National Championships.
ROUND THREE
With their season hanging in the balance, Mulder came through when his team needed him most. The Washington native stepped up to the par 5 16th and pulled off an incredible feat, posting an eagle on the hole for the third straight day to keep his team alive in the fight. He birdied 18 to finish with a 70 and tie for second place overall.
Jones was consistent with three birdies for an even par 72 as he tied for 56th. Christensen Jr. shot a 73 to tie for 20th, and Reddell fired a 74 to tie for 73rd. Debruyckere finished with an 81 to tie for 96th.
The Cougars were as consistent as it gets with an overall score of 867 (289, 289, 289) as they tied for 4th overall to book their spot at the National Championships.
