LAKEWOOD, CO – At the eve of possibly the biggest snowstorm this year, the Cougars completed the sweep of Chadron State with two impressive offensive showings. The Cougars took game one 12-3 in six innings and won game number two 14-1 in five innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
GAME ONE:
Chadron State scored first, bringing home three runs in the first frame, the Cougars responded in the bottom of the first as Sydney Reamer hit her second leadoff home run of the series to put the Cougars on the board.
The Cougars took the lead in the second inning with a sac fly and a RBI single to bring home three runs and give the Cougars a lead that they would not relinquish.
The Cougars extended the lead in the third with an eight run outburst that extended the lead to 12-3. The outpouring of runs was highlighted by a two RBI double by Kayla Middleton.
After allowing three runs in the first inning, Jennifer Romero settled down and did not allow another run for the remainder of the game as the bats backed her up.
COUGAR LEADERS: Kenzie Middleton had two hits for the Cougars, Reamer, Sami Edwards, Caitlin McCarthy and Kayla Middleton all had two RBI. Reamer had the only home run of the game.
In the circle, Romero pitched all five innings, allowing three runs and striking out six.
GAME TWO:
The Cougars jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the first inning, on three singles as small ball got the Cougars runs in.
The second inning was more offense for the Cougars, back to back home runs helped the Cougars reach a 14-0 lead in the third inning.
Julie Katz stayed solid in the circle, only allowing a solo home run in the fourth inning, other than that she only allowed two other hits in a dominating performance.
COUGAR LEADERS: Stephanie Day and Piper Lujan both had three hits for the Cougars and Lujan had four RBI. Kayla Middleton also had three RBI for the Cougars.
Katz pitched all five innings, allowing one run and striking out six with no walks.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- This is the first series the Cougars have swept this season.
- In both games the Cougars scored more runs than they had hits.
- Sydney Rawlings recorded her first career at bat in game two.
UP NEXT: The Cougars are headed to Black Hills State next weekend for a four game series. Games will be on Saturday and Sunday.
