BOULDER CITY, NV- CCU took on the RMAC championship in hopes to continue their great spring season. At Boulder Creek golf course, the Cougars played phenomenally through the three rounds. It all came down to an exciting playoff hole in the final round, resulting in a close second place to close out the tournament.
ROUND ONE
The Cougars ended day one at the RMAC tournament at 4 under par, with a total team score of 283. This landed them in 3rd place out of the nine schools playing in the tournament.
Dylan Arthur lead the Cougars, placing third overall on the individual leaderboard after shooting a 68 with six birdies!
Xavier Bighaus and
Adam Duncan both shot a 71, at 1 under par.
Peyton Jones ended the round at 1 over par for a score of 73.
Cole Grossl finished his round shooting a 77.
ROUND TWO
The Cougars were hot on Monday for day 2 of the RMAC tournament! They posted a low team score of 274(14 under par) and currently stand in first place overall! Some very low scores were posted with
Xavier Bighaus leading the way after shooting his career low of 65 (7 under par)! Duncan also had a great round after shooting a 66 (6 under par) and Arthur sitting tied for third after shooting a 70 (2 under par). Jones posted a smooth 73 and Grossl was dialed shooting a 74.
ROUND THREE
The final round of the RMAC tournament was a battle to the end as the Cougars competed hard, shooting a team score of 292(4 over par).
Xavier Bighaus continued to stay hot and led the tournament after a finishing round of 73(1 over par)! Xavier shot a total of 7 under par, placing first overall in the RMAC championships!
Duncan finished his round with a 76 and placed 6th overall. Jones had his best round of the week and shot 2 under par (70) to secure a tie for 12th place with his teammate,
Dylan Arthur who shot a 78 to end the day. Grossl ended up shooting a 73 to finish 27th overall.
The Cougars took second place in the RMAC tournament after tying with CSU Pueblo, shooting a team total of 849. Due to this tie, CSU Pueblo and the Cougars went back to hole 18 to compete in a playoff hole to determine a champion. An aggregate tiebreaker format took place; with the lowest total of each team's five scores being crowned champion. A narrow stroke separated the two teams at the thrilling finish.
"Though we are very disappointed with having come up a stroke short of winning the conference championship in a playoff, I'm super proud of the guys and their effort this week," said Head Coach
Mark Hull. "We came up just short this time, but we look forward to playing in the NCAA tournament next week, where we hope to make a real push to advance to the national finals. I'm proud to have these guys represent CCU, as they are high character guys who are really fun to coach!"
Colorado Christian will return home and prepare for the NCAA Super Regionals hosted in Rohnert Park, CA on May 10-May 13.
