DENVER, CO- Following heavy snowfall in Colorado the night before, cross country competed at the South Central regionals hosted at Wash Park in Denver on Saturday. Running on a cold and at times snowy course, the men took an impressive 6th place while the women claimed 8th out of the top teams competing at the regionals.
The men got things started in the 8k as they looked to post a strong result.
Matthew Storer was in the front of the pack for the Cougars, claiming seventh place overall with a time of 31:32.02 to garner All-Region honors.
Hudson Majeski ran a very strong race, coming in 17th with a time of 32:01.40 as he also claimed an All-Region nod. Next came
Ethan Wampler for the Cougars as he posted a run of 32:30.48, while
Sean McCauley ran a 33:10.02.
Klay Grant posted a time of 33:23.27, and
Mateo Luna ran a 33:24.13.
Sam Schwarting ran a 33:29.71 to close the race for his team. The finish gave the Cougars a sixth place finish out of the 24 teams competing as they appear poised for another trip to Nationals.
Next up came the women as they competed in the 6k. Transfer
Britta Holmberg led the team on the day as she raced to a 14th place finish with a run of 22:12.64 to earn All-Region for her strong race.
Shannon King came right after her teammate in 15th with a time of 22:15.15 as she too earned All-Region distinctions.
Lucy Pidek ran a 23:17.36 while
Kate Miller posted a time of 24:06.59.
Ava Maginity ran a 24:22.68, and
Rachel Harpt ran a 25:43.03.
Nora Thompson ran a 25:48.63 to close the day for her team. The team claimed an overall finish of 8th out of 26 teams as they look to earn a bid to Nationals.
