PITTSBURG, KS- The Cougars hit the track at the Indoor National Championships hosted by Pittsburg State on Friday looking to make their mark. The trio of Shannon King, Matthew Storer and Josh Pierantoni all competed, and they did not disappoint on an exciting day.
King started things off as she participated in the highly competitive Mile prelims. In a loaded field of participants, Shannon ran a personal best time of 4:48.29 to claim 10th in the nation. King narrowly missed out on a spot in tomorrow's finals, but with her career time she earned Second Team All American Honors on a stellar day for her. The run will surely give Shannon momentum heading into the outdoor season as she had a strong Indoor season capped with an All American nod.
Storer and Pierantoni closed the day as they took place in the 5000m finals. Both runners ran strong races, and Storer paced his team with a run of 13:57.00 to claim fifth place in the country. The effort gave Storer a First Team All American honor as he continues to excel for the Cougars. Pierantoni closed with a time of 13:59.80 to take eighth place overall as he claimed an All American nod as well.
It was a tremendous day of success for the trio at Nationals, but there is more to come tomorrow. Both Storer and Pierantoni will close their time at the National Championships as they run in the 3000m, with the race set to begin at 6:05 p.m. MST.
