COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- The Cougars competed in their last meet of the regular season on Friday as they headed south to take part in the Air Force Last Chance Meet. The team sent many athletes down to compete and saw some impressive top-5 finishes on a successful day.
Tara Smoker and Madeline Schmeling got things started in the 60m with times of 8.11 and 8.47 respectively. Hannah George followed in the 200m, nabbing third place with a run of 26.15. Smoker also took part in the 400m, winning the race with a time of 57.93. Zanzie Demco then followed in the 800m with a second place spot in a time of 2:19.51.
Kaylia Bookout was the lone runner for CCU in the 3000m, and she was strong with a run of 11:38.33 as she competed against four runners from Division I Wyoming. Hannah Zugigh took part in the 60m hurdles, posting a time of 10.39. Ashley Vil performed well in the triple jump, posting a leap of 11.53m. Elana Sutton competed in the shot put, tossing a mark of 10.71m.
Seth Nowlin got the men started in the 60m with a time of 7.43. In the 200m, it was Jonah Beard leading his team with a time of 22.93. Nowlin followed with a time of 23.42 and Paul Gibas closed with a run of 25.04. Beard also took part in the 400m, posting a time of 54.50. In the 800m, Jacob Marker ran a 2:19.56 in a loaded field. Tate Fletcher was stellar in the mile, claiming fourth with a run of 4:25.71. Jonathan Holloway followed with a 4:37.31, and Kale Edmonds closed with a 4:39.50.
Trent Cochran ran at the Mines Pre-Conference meet on Saturday, taking part in the 3000m. The speedy Cochran ran a great race, posting a converted time of 8:09.50 to earn an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time.
The Cougars will now get ready for the RMAC Championships hosted by Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota February 23-24.
