GRAND JUNCTION, CO- The Cougars continued the outdoor season with their third meet of the spring as they participated in the Maverick Invite & Multi. It was a stellar day for CCU as they saw a number of wins and quality races in Grand Junction to give them momentum into the rest of the season.
For the women,
Beth Pierantoni and
Sarah Hamlin got things started in the 5000m, placing second and third with runs of 19:59.46 and 20:31.27.
Hannah Zugich continued in the 100m hurdles, posting a time of 16.75. The foursome of
Hannah George,
Madeline Schmeling,
Ashley Vil and
Tara Smoker participated in the 4x100m, taking third with a time of 48.75.
Benisa Ellis was strong in the 1500m, winning the event with a run of 4:45.54 for a personal best.
Lucy Pidek followed with a time of 4:52.96 while
Nora Thompson ran a 5:01.90.
Elizabeth Cochran posted a time of 5:05.44, and
Maleah Wardlaw ran a time of 5:07.36.
Emma Flowers posted a run of 5:42.37 and
Anna McLaughlin closed the 1500m with a time of 6:02.67.
George and Schmeling continued in the 100m dash, running times of 12.29 and 13.25 respectively.
Tara Smoker excelled in the 400m, winning the race with a blazing fast time of 57.37.
Mikayla Jefferson followed with a run of 1:06.92.
Ava Maginity was stellar in the 800m, taking third place with a run of 2:19.23.
Brooke Connolly, Wardlaw and Hamlin all followed with times of 2:35.30, 2:35.45 and 2:41.96. Zugich also took part in the 400m hurdles, running a time of 1:09.79. George, Smoker and Schmeling took part in the 200m, running times of 25.71, 26.86 and 27.84.
Alayna Wallace closed with a run of 31.12.
Elana Sutton participated in the high jump, leaping a height of 1.50m.
Ashley Vil competed in the triple jump, posting a distance of 11.19m to claim fifth.
For the men,
Jay Wood led things off in the 5000m with a time of 15:39.94.
Sam Schwarting ran a 15:43.56 while
Kale Edmonds posted a 16:10.97.
Jonathan Holloway ran a 16:15.73 followed by
Mason Gansz with a 16:35.69.
Trent Cochran ran an excellent race in the 1500m, winning the event in a time of 3:54.37.
Mateo Luna posted a 3:56.28 for second place as the Cougars claimed the top two spots in the race.
Klay Grant nabbed fourth with a time of 3:58.33, while
Ethan Wampler ran a 4:06.79.
Jacob Marker continued in the 400m with a run of 52.1 to win his heat and take seventh.
Jonah Beard and
Paul Gibas took part in the 100m, running times of 11.17 and 11.69 respectively.
Hudson Majeski ran well in the 800m, taking third with a personal best time of 1:54.78.
Tate Fletcher followed with a run of 1:58.19 while
Michael Mote posted a time of 2:00.18.
David Jaquez ran a time of 2:12.09 and
Jason Caven closed with a run of 2:26.95. Beard and Gibas closed the day in the 200m as they posted times of 22.88 and 24.13.
After the strong results in Grand Junction, the Cougars head out of state to Southern California April 11-13 to take part in the prestigious Bryan Clay Invitational hosted at Azusa Pacific University.
