PUEBLO, CO- The Outdoor Track & Field season began for CCU on Saturday as they competed at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Early Bird Invitational at CSU Pueblo. Colorado CHristian got off to a lightning fast start, claiming wins in events and seeing several personal bests throughout the team.
The women began in the 10k, and
Lucy Pidek led her team with a run of 38:31.31 for a fifth place finish.
Callie Ketner followed closely in sixth with a time of 38:31.70.
Elizabeth Cochran closed the event out with a run of 39:03.86. In the 1500m,
Ava Maginity led the teams' efforts with a time of 4:58.38.
Emma Flowers closed with a 5:58.84 in the event.
In the 100m hurdles,
Hannah Zugich ran a 17.32 for her team.
Tara Smoker was fantastic in the 400m, setting a personal best with a run of 58.03 to finish second in the competitive event.
Madeline Schmeling ran a 1:05.96 to close the 400.
Hannah George was strong in the 100m, running a 12.23 for fifth place overall.
Michelle Burroughs ran the 800m, closing with a time of 2:30.17. Smoker also competed in the 200m, nabbing seventh with a run of 25.63. Zugich also participated in the event, posting a 27.93. In the 5000m, it was
Benisa Ellis who shined, placing second with a time of 18:58.02.
Kaylie Bookout followed in fifth with a run of 19:12.15, while
Nora Thompson was just behind in sixth with a time of 19:25.68.
Maleah Wardlaw ran a 19:35.50 followed by
Sarah Hamlin with a 20:42.08.
In the field events,
Elana Sutton took part in the shot put, throwing 34'2" (10.42m).
Ashley Vil was tremendous in the triple jump, setting a personal best and school record with a jump of 38'4.5' (11.70m).
Matthew Storer got the men off to a hot start, blazing his way to a victory in the 10k with a tremendous run of 29:48.87.
Josh Pierantoni followed in fifth with a 29:57.89, while
Trent Cochran ran a 30:35.52.
Alex Vance posted a 30:43.67, and
Ethan Wampler ran a 31:57.49.
Isaac Roberts posted a 32:15.47, and
Klay Grant and
Jay Wood ran times of 32:22.05 and 32:30.28 respectively.
Sam Schwarting ran a 32:47,56, while
Kale Edmonds and
Jonathan Holloway tallied times of 33:41.18 and 33:43.30. In the 1500m,
Hudson Majeski was strong with a fourth place finish on a run of 3:53.79.
Tate Fletcher closed with a 4:01.87 in the event.
In the 400m,
Jonah Beard and
Gabe Ring posted times of 53.54 and 53.69 respectively.
Paul Gibas ran a 57.80 to close the race.
Mason Gansz led the efforts in the 800m, running a 1:58.86, while Fletcher posted a 2:00.18.
Michael Mote followed with a 2:04.93 in his first outdoor meet.
Jacob Marker finished with a 2:11.30. Beard and Gibas ran in the 200m, tallying times of 22.44 and 24.45.
The Cougars will be back in Pueblo next weekend for the Spank Blasing Invitational on March 23 as they continue the outdoor season.
