Teddy Woodrow Northcutt (Woody) was born in 1938 in Clovis, New Mexico. Woody attended Hardin-Simmons University from 1957-61. Following graduation from Hardin-Simmons, Woody worked toward a degree in Pastoral Theology at Sioux Falls Baptist Seminary.

Before moving to Colorado to become the campus pastor at the University of Colorado and Colorado School of Mines, Woody met and married his second wife, Betty. Proud members of the new blended Northcutt family included Ted, Zoy, Brad, Greg and Bobbi—all five of them tennis players.

After his time with the students of CU and School of Mines, Woody served on the pastoral staffs at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church and Riverside Baptist Church. In 1983 he became an adjunct faculty member at Colorado Baptist University and in 1987 he stepped in to serve as CBU’s Volleyball and Tennis Coach. He was a member of the United States Professional Tennis Registry, the United States Tennis Association, and the Terrace Tennis Club in Denver. When Colorado Baptist and Colorado Christian merged in 1989, Woody added Campus Minister to his duties on faculty and in Athletics. He stepped down as tennis coach after ten years, only to take over the reigns again in 2005.
